This week we featured two unsung heroes of the golden era of Brazilian music. Manoel Barenbein was the producer behind classic albums from Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil and Gal Costa in the late 60s and 70s as the Tropicalia movement politicised the emerging avant-garde art scene. Writer and arranger Arthur Verocai was less prolific but no less influential. His 1972 self titled album has been a cult classic for many years, providing sample material for MF DOOM, Jneiro Jarel and Little Brother whilst his work with Celia, Gal Costa and Anamaria & Mauricio confirmed his standing in the history of Brazilian music.
